How much Tikkuril paint is used per square meter?

Kinds

The Finnish company Tikkurila was one of the very first to use such a popular concept today as “tinting” colors. Using catalogs or a special program, the consumer can choose any color or tone of the coloring composition he needs.

Wall paints from this manufacturer are:

  • emulsion;
  • alkyd;
  • silicate;
  • adhesive.

Water is used to obtain ready-made emulsion compositions, and after drying it is almost not washed off with water. Emulsion dyes are divided into several types.

  • Water-based materials allow surfaces to “breathe”. Most often they can be found in rooms with high humidity levels. Their disadvantage is their intolerance to negative temperatures.
  • Water-dispersed compositions are slightly similar to water-based ones. The main difference is the lack of a striking range of colors; they can only be used at temperatures from +6ºС, and they are considered more water-resistant.

  • The main component of acrylic paint is acrylic resins. They are durable, elastic, able to cover minor damage to walls, and are also not afraid of temperature changes. It is highly undesirable to use this composition in damp rooms.
  • Latex formulations are the most expensive, as they include latex. Therefore, they have excellent water repelling effect. They dry quickly, but gradually fade, do not hold color well, but are considered washable.
  • Silicone paint includes silicone resins as components. It is elastic and covers damage up to 2 mm. Paints of this type will be a good antiseptic; they are not afraid of dirt and retain their original texture for as long as possible, and are also heat-resistant.

Adhesive paint includes several varieties.

  • Interior casein paint. It has an excellent appearance and increased durability. It is used for painting concrete, brick, and plastered walls.
  • Dectinated compounds are made from bone glue. They do not have high resistance to moisture.
  • Adhesive. They have a huge range of colors, are completely harmless, but they are afraid of the rays of the sun and moisture.

Tintable graphite paint for boards in schools and for children's tables is also in great demand. Liitu can be purchased in traditional black colors or choose any of the dark shades of the Tikkurila paint palette. The painted surface is matte graphite and is easy to write on with chalk.

The glazing antiseptic, which is part of some coloring compositions, will allow you to qualitatively treat the walls outside the building, entrance doors, fences, garden furniture and other wooden structures. Deep matte glaze paint Harmony with a wear-resistant effect is ideal for decorative painting of walls that were previously painted with a different interior composition.

Which one to choose for external and internal work?

The manufacturer's catalog is divided into several sections. Separate paints are highlighted for interior decoration of not only walls, but also ceilings, floors, window and door openings, and furniture. Products for bathrooms, bathhouses and metal surfaces are also provided. These are the Harmony, Joker, Magnetic, Miranol, Remontti-Yassya series.

Products are provided for bathrooms, bathhouses and metal surfaces.

Products for external finishing are divided into categories depending on the type of surface and the location itself. For example, balconies, window openings from the outside, garden fittings, roofing, doors. For wooden facades series Pesto, PekaTeha, Teha, Ultra Classic, Valtti, Vinha. For concrete – Euro Facade, Prof Facade and so on.

Products for external finishing are divided into categories depending on the type of surface and the location itself.

Euro 7

A hit in the interior theme can be called - euro 7 from this manufacturer. Very durable, minimal cost, the ability to gently wash with a brush - all these are win-win characteristics of this type. Euro 7 can be used on wallpaper for painting. Tikkuril paint is Euro 7, consumption per m2 for one layer is 10-12 m2/l for smooth surfaces and 7-8 m2/l, respectively, for uneven surfaces. It lays down evenly and has no odor. This is actively used in families with allergies and children.

What does consumption depend on?

Many painters and owners who have started home renovations think about how much paint they will need. To make the calculation correctly, you need to know :

  1. Paint consumption is determined by the thickness of the coating . If you use two layers of paint, you will need twice as much paint.
  2. Paint consumption depends on the surface on which it is applied. When applying a white primer to a concrete surface, the consumption will be less than when painting in dark colors.
  3. A factor influencing consumption is the method of application . If you paint a wall with a sprayer and a brush, the paint consumption will be approximately the same.
  4. If you paint the ceiling with a brush rather than a sprayer, the consumption will increase due to the uncontrolled thickness of the coating.

  5. Consumption directly depends on the size of the particles included in the coating. It is known that decorative plasters for walls have increased consumption compared to matte enamels.

More information from the manufacturer and instructions for painting the interior with Luya paint in the video below:

Tikkurila and its species

Today, Tikkurila paint is divided into four types, depending on the composition that is present in it. This:

  • silicone paint and varnish products (base – silicone resin);
  • acrylic paint and varnish products (base – acrylic resin);
  • mineral paint and varnish products (base – slaked lime or cement);
  • silicate paint and varnish products (base – aqueous solution, liquid glass and colored pigment).

Tikkurila has a large number of advantages that distinguish it from other manufacturers. This:

  • quick drying (maximum ceiling - 3-4 hours);
  • The company's paint and varnish products are made in accordance with all standards adopted by European standardization organizations. This makes it environmentally friendly and does not harm the human body. That is why workers at hardware stores recommend Tikkurila paint for painting walls and ceilings in children's rooms;
  • lack of smell that irritates (which is a huge help in the fight against competitors);
  • using the tinting method (white or transparent paint can be tinted to absolutely any color). You can also purchase a special pigment separately;
  • the process that includes painting the walls and ceiling is not difficult, since applying Tikkurila paint is a very easy procedure;
  • a huge selection of materials (you can choose exactly what you need).

How much does it take?

Before you buy paint, you need to roughly estimate how much it will be spent on a particular job. To do this you need:

  • understand how many layers will be applied to the surface;
  • remember that the matte version costs less than the decorative one;
  • do not forget that light colors are consumed faster than dark counterparts;
  • choose how the paint will be applied (after all, using a roller or brush implies different consumption of material).

Tikkuril paint consumption on average fluctuates around 120-130 mg per m². If a person needs to paint a room, for example, 25 m², then for this he will need two cans of three liters each.

Euro 2

This is ideal for walls, but even more so for ceilings. It has a deep matte finish and fits perfectly on new and old surfaces. If not washed with detergent, then “Euro 2” is resistant to water. This is very good, because defects and stains appear very quickly on light-colored ceilings and walls. Has an unexpressed odor. It can be used for medical purposes. Tikkuril paint Euro 2, consumption per m2 for one layer: 8-10m2/l with a smooth surface and 5-7m2/l with an uneven surface. Completely matte, no shine.

color effect

Tikkuril paint colors have their own unique composition. The large selection of colors is due to the fact that each person has his own taste, and everyone likes a certain color (and sometimes its shades).

Let's take the matte option, for example. Paint of this type in most cases has classic, calm and muted tones. The glossy version, on the contrary, can use the entire palette of shades that can be found in special fans.

When choosing paint and varnish products, it should be taken into account that the matte version is more intended to hide some roughness and errors on the wall, but gloss, on the contrary, will show all the disadvantages in all its glory. Therefore, before applying glossy paint, it is necessary to clean the surface to perfect condition (as far as possible).

It is this process that allows you to find exactly what your soul likes most. And then ordinary orange, yellow and other colors turn into an amazing golden or silver hue.

Kinds

The Tikkurila plant produces the following types of wall coverings:

  1. Emulsion;
  2. Alkyd;
  3. Silicate;
  4. Adhesive.

The first type is characterized by the fact that it is made using water. It also has several varieties: water-based, water-dispersion, acrylic, polyvinyl acetate, latex and silicone.

Water-based - breathable paint. Used in rooms with high humidity levels. Easy to apply and washes off after a certain time. Has a wide range of colors.

The water-dispersed one has a modest palette, compared to the previous type, is more resistant to moisture, and does not tolerate temperatures below +6 degrees.

Acrylic - highly durable, elastic, expensive. Easily masks cracks, does not allow air to pass through, and after drying becomes hyper-resistant to mechanical damage.

Latex paint is one of the most expensive in the Tikkurila line. Waterproof, durable and easy to clean. Dries quickly after painting, but loses color over time.

Alkyd paints are divided into enamel and oil paints. The first subgroup is based on varnish components. They have a wide range of applications, a glossy surface, dry in an hour or less, repel water and easily resist corrosion.

Oil paints are created with the addition of drying oil. Used for painting various surfaces, excluding walls.

Silicate paints are mineral paints because they contain liquid glass and alkali.

When working with them, you must take precautions: wear a protective suit, gloves and a mask.

Adhesive types of paints are divided into three groups:

  • casein - wear-resistant, retain color for a long time. They are used to paint concrete, plastered and brick surfaces;
  • dextinated - have virtually no resistance to moisture;
  • adhesive – completely unresistant to moisture and carbon dioxide.

Among other things, I would like to highlight special types of Tikkurila paints that are qualitatively different from standard ones: magnetic, graphite and polyurethane. Let's discuss each separately.

Tikkurila “Magnetic” interior paint is an original water-based paint made with the addition of magnetic chips. It is always gray and matte. On it, like on a board, you can attach paintings, drawings, photos using small magnets, any small metal items, without making a hole in the walls.

Blackboard effect paint – Tikkurila “Liitu” slate (graphite) paint. Can turn any room wall into a canvas for an aspiring artist or writer. It is distinguished by the fact that it is very resistant to washing and can withstand up to 5000 cleanings with a stiff brush. Graphite base is available in a wide variety of colors - from red to clear and white. Like a chalk board, it allows you to both show your imagination on the walls of your home and do homework for little schoolchildren.

Tikkurila “Temadur” is a high-strength polyurethane paint that is used for painting steel, aluminum products, as well as structures made of ferrous and galvanized metal. Has high anti-corrosion properties.

Tikkurila Euro Power 7 / Tikkurila Euro 7 matte washable paint

Latex material designed for high operational loads. Designed for interior work. Suitable for ceilings, walls. Forms a matte finish that can be washed frequently and intensively.

The composition on a water-dispersion basis is characterized by good coverage, economical consumption, and environmental safety. It has no obvious odor and is comfortable to work with. In terms of the content of volatile organic substances, the material has a certificate of compliance with European environmental standards. It is used in educational and medical premises where children are located.

Peculiarities

Available in convenient containers of 0.9 l, 2.7 l, 9 l, so you can easily select the required volume for the area of work. The manufacturer recommends this material for painting walls and ceilings in rooms with high loads during operation, normal/high humidity:

  • hallways;
  • corridors;
  • kitchens;
  • flights of stairs;
  • cafes, restaurants;
  • the shops;
  • offices;
  • public spaces.

The paint is suitable for substrates made of concrete, brick, plasterboard, chipboard, OSB, and wallpaper for painting. The surface can be pre-applied with plaster or putty.

Strength

According to the manufacturer, the coating can withstand 10 thousand passes with a soft brush. Even with repeated intensive washing, the color saturation remains for a long time. Care for the coating using household non-abrasive products. According to ISO 11998 / DIN EN 13300 this paint is classified as wet abrasion resistance class 1. The density indicator is 1.2–1.4 kg/l, dry residue - 49%.

Tinting

When painting large surfaces, you need to make sure that the paint is from the same batch.

Available in two bases:

  • white A - for use untinted and for tinting in light, pastel colors:
  • C - for tinting in rich shades.

The material can be given any of 20 thousand shades according to the “Symphony” palette offered by the manufacturer. Tinting is carried out using special equipment in the store upon purchase.

Conditions and preparation

The optimal temperature for work is above +5°C, humidity is up to 80%.

New bases are cleaned of dirt, grease and dust. If the surface is absorbent, porous, and filled with dry construction mixture, then it is primed with Euro Primer of the same brand. If continuous puttying was carried out, then there is no need to prime the base.

Bases with old paint use a scraper to remove weak areas of the coating, the surface is sanded and dust-free. If lime paint or chalk-based whitewash has been applied to the base, they must be completely removed, washed with water containing Maalipesu of the same brand, rinsed with clean water and dried. If the surface is uneven or has defects, they are filled with Euro Filler. Then sanding, dust removal and priming with Euro Primer from the same manufacturer are carried out.

Applying paint

The composition is thoroughly mixed. Possible dilution with water:

  • when working with a brush/roller - up to 5% of the volume;
  • spray - up to 10%.

The manufacturer recommends applying the material in two layers. Under standard conditions (18-22°C, humidity 60-70%), the first layer dries for 2 hours, after which you can begin applying the second.

If the surface is smooth and non-absorbent, then 1 liter of the composition is enough for 10-12 m2. If uneven and absorbent - by 7-9 m2.

After finishing the work, the tools are cleaned of excess paint and washed with water. If the material has already hardened slightly, it is best to use Pensellipesu cleaning agent from the same brand.

Care

The coating dries completely and gains the strength stated by the manufacturer in 4 weeks. During this period, you must handle it with the utmost care. If it is necessary to remove dirt, this is done extremely delicately using a dry/wet soft sponge.

After a month, the coating can be washed with a sponge/soft brush using a neutral (pH 6)8) detergent. Its remains are washed off with a sponge soaked in clean water. After cleaning, no moisture should remain on the coating.

Storage

The material is stored and transported in sealed packaging at temperatures above +5°C. It is necessary to protect the paint from frost, heat, and direct sun. If the conditions are met, the declared shelf life of the material is 3 years from the date of production.

Peculiarities

The Tikkurila brand has been around for over 130 years, so we can say that the quality characteristics of the products have been tested over decades of active use.

There are several main advantages of Tikkurila varnishes:

  • Complete security. When producing these paints, only environmentally friendly components are selected (wax, vegetable oil, natural pigments). When painting wall coverings, this fact is very important, since the material is most often used for work inside the house.
  • This material does not cause allergies. It will ensure excellent interaction between the painted coating and the external environment. The air in a painted room remains quite humid and comfortable.
  • Enviable service life. Tikkurila paints provide the best protection for wall surfaces from various natural influences: UV radiation, high humidity, seasonal temperature changes.
  • Stunning brightness and zero burn-in effect. You can get acquainted with a huge selection of paints of different colors, suitable for different coatings: concrete, wood, metal.
  • Availability of an integrated approach when choosing materials of a given brand. When choosing Tikkurila paint, you can purchase other products from this manufacturer, which will help to properly prepare walls for painting.

Speaking about the disadvantages of this popular paint, we can note only one disadvantage - it is a fairly high price.

Peculiarities

The Tikkurila concern is not just a Finnish paint and varnish factory. This is an entire research and production institute that studies the market, researches and implements the latest developments in this area. Each product is subject to careful analysis and testing by the European Commission for Standardization. This brand has been producing their paint for over 130 years and is an innovator when it comes to paint. Finnish manufacturers were the first to offer the buyer to create their own color using tinting (mixing two or more colors to obtain the desired shade).

The main features of Tikkurila brand paint materials are:

  • Environmentally friendly. This word appears in almost every commercial today. The Finnish brand declares quite responsibly that it uses only natural materials to make its products: wax, oil, earthen pigments of natural or mineral origin.
  • Hypoallergenic. It follows from the previous point. Tikkurila paints do not cause allergies, provide natural ventilation of the room, allowing air flows to pass through, and help remove excess moisture and maintain the necessary humidity in the room.

  • Durability. One of these advantages, which today is found quite rarely and for a lot of money (and even then - not always). Thanks to the work of the Tikkurila scientific center, a unique paint composition has been created that allows the coating to withstand external influences: moisture, sunlight and sudden temperature changes.
  • Brightness. A wide variety of shades allows you to approach the selection of paint so individually that no one else in the world may have this color. But the main feature of Finnish paint in this sense is that it will look equally bright on wood, metal, and on the wall, since the products are produced separately for each surface and do not fade in the sun.

To appreciate the products of a Finnish brand, you should carefully consider all its positive and negative sides.

Types of Tikkuril paints by base with descriptions and varieties

Tikkurila paint is presented not only in a wide color spectrum. It is also divided into types based on the basis of its composition. It can be emulsion, alkyd, adhesive, silicate, latex and so on.

Paint can be emulsion, alkyd, adhesive, silicate, latex, and so on.

Emulsion

Emulsion paint is diluted with water, in which all components are evenly distributed. Once completely dry, the emulsion is difficult to wash off with water. It is harmless, economical in consumption, and has good adhesion to the surface. In addition, this type belongs to the fire-resistant and quick-drying subspecies. Emulsions do not have a pungent odor. They can be coated with other types of paints.

The emulsion is divided into subgroups:

  • Acrylic;
  • Silicone;
  • Water-based;
  • Water-based dispenser;
  • Based on polyvinyl acetate;
  • Latex.
  1. Water-based compositions “breathe” and allow vapor to pass through perfectly. Tikkurila enamel of this group is applicable in rooms with high humidity. It retains its shade for a long time, but is not resistant to low temperatures. There are water-based compositions that create a textured surface.
  2. Water-based dispenser paint has almost similar characteristics to the previous type. However, it is more resistant to moisture and is not afraid of low temperatures. Has fewer colors.
  3. Acrylic mixtures contain a resin of the same name. The high coefficient of elasticity and strength helps to mask small cracks on the surface. It is resistant to low temperatures and does not hold up well in rooms with high humidity. Acrylic paint is the most resistant to minor mechanical damage.

Latex paint is considered the most expensive due to its latex content. Excellent water-repellent properties make surfaces easy to clean every day. A budget option is adhesive-based paints (PVA).

The paint is harmless, economical in consumption, and has good adhesion to the surface.

Alkyd

The alkyd group of paints from this manufacturer is divided into oil and enamel. The basis of oil compositions is drying oil. They are not used for interior decoration. The enamel type has great advantages. This paint is resistant to sunlight and is not afraid of moisture. It dries within an hour, plus it has anti-corrosion properties. Can be used in any field.

This paint is resistant to sunlight and is not afraid of moisture.

Silicate

Silicate paint is classified as a mineral composition due to the content of glass particles in it. Ease of operation due to the possibility of diluting the mixture with water. At the same time she:

  • Protects the painted surface, preventing the appearance of pathogens;
  • Has good steam and air throughput;
  • The main advantage is resistance to temperature fluctuations.

It has a limited number of colors in its arsenal. Due to the alkali content in its composition, work with the silicate mixture only in a mask and protective suit.

The main advantage is resistance to temperature fluctuations.

Types of Tikkuril paints and their consumption

The company produces various types of coatings. Alkyd enamels are ideal for creating exterior finishes The consumption of such coating per 1 square meter is 100-120 grams.

For internal surfaces, latex paints are suitable, the consumption of which is 80-100 grams per 1 m2. Tikkurila will give the wooden surface a sophisticated look.

Water-based paint the safest coating from an environmental point of view . The solvent for it is water. The paint can be used to cover bare plaster or masonry.

You need to apply this coating to wallpaper with caution: the presence of water in the paint will cause the material to peel off from the wall.

The use of water-based paint on a wooden surface is also not allowed due to the high probability that the pores will enlarge from the liquid, thereby warping the surface of the wood.

The advantages of this type of coating are the absence of odor and the ability to apply any paint as a top layer.

silicate primer is made from liquid potassium glass. After applying the first layer to the surface, the solution is allowed to harden. This Tikurilov paint protects the material from damage and allows the surface to breathe.

This coating is used for facades of buildings , residential premises and construction sites. Silicate compositions that are resistant to the development of harmful microorganisms belong to class M1 for safety of use.

Paint consumption per 1 m2 is 250 grams, for surfaces with abundant absorption - 1 liter.

Silicone resin based water thinning paint suitable for industrial, commercial and residential applications. Silicone resin is absorbed into the substrate, protecting it from wet snow and rain.

And a special technology allows steam to pass through from the inside, which allows the wall to breathe. The paint is produced in 49 shades of Tikkurila Facade, which includes pastel, beige and gray shades.

Alkyd paint of this brand is ideal for interior work. Its advantages are a glossy surface, high drying speed and anti-corrosion properties.

This type of coating prevents the appearance and proliferation of fungus on the coated surface.

Tikkuril adhesive paints They have an absolutely harmless composition. Not subject to fading when exposed to sunlight.

Tikkuril paint and varnish coatings have proven themselves in the building materials market because:

  • dry quickly after painting;
  • Suitable for almost any surface;
  • are slowly consumed;
  • They have a faint odor.

The only downside is the high cost stated by the manufacturer.
