Paint and varnish material AK-511 for marking roads

Purpose of paint

This brand of dye is used for marking on roads with moderate and heavy traffic.

The properties of the material make it possible to place safety lines on both asphalt and concrete surfaces with equal efficiency.

The production technology is described in the standard - AK-511 is produced in accordance with GOST R 52575-2006. It also regulates the scope of application of the material - roads of categories 1-4.

There are both white and black road paint. The first one is used for its intended purpose not only on roadways, but also in parking lots, airfields, local areas, and warehouses.

The second is used to mask or correct old markings.

Visibility of road lines in the dark is ensured by special tiny glass beads.

Composition of road CM

Road paints are subject to requirements that are reflected in clauses of GOST R 52575-2006. Road marking paint AK-511 fully complies with them. Enamel components: a tandem of a copolymer solution with small solid particles of color and fillers. Xiol, toluene are solvents that are applied to the dye.

Semi-matte paint AK-511, used for markings, belongs to the one-component KM category.

Its texture:

  • smooth;
  • lumps are not visible to the eye;
  • with shine.

On the road surface, the dried paint becomes a shiny, uniform film. The markings are applied in white, yellow, red, orange, black. The color depends on its purpose.

Manufacturers produce enamel in 25-liter buckets and containers. Maintained storage conditions, which are dictated by the manufacturer, and proper transportation are the key to the fact that AK-511 paint and its characteristics will comply with state standards. During transportation of a container with paint, one must not allow it to depressurize, disturb the temperature regime in the storage facility, or deviate from the normal humidity level.

Road paint AK-511 has the following properties:

  • Brightness – thanks to the combination of coloring pigments, the paint is visible on the road at any time of the day, regardless of weather conditions. Light reflection, which increases visibility, can be increased by adding special granules.
  • Durability of application - the enamel has high adhesion to the surface being painted, making it quick and easy to apply.
  • Wear resistance - the paint does not wear off within a year after application, depending on the nature of the road surface and the degree of vehicle load. The service life can be increased by adding fine quartz sand to the solution.
  • Wash-resistant – the paint will not wash off when exposed to water, gasoline, salt and road cleaning chemicals (sodium chloride and hydroxide). The paint is resistant to temperature changes, sudden changes in weather, impacts and high loads from large vehicles.
  • UV resistant – paint will not fade or crack when exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Drying speed - subject to application conditions, the paint dries very quickly (within 20 minutes at an average temperature of about 20 ° C).
  • Ease of application - the viscosity and fluidity of the paint allows it to be applied using all available means.
  • Functionality - in some cases there is no need to use a solvent. It is possible to increase the performance properties by adding approved reagents.

Technical parameters of the material

Analogs

The main analogue of AK-511 enamel is AK-505 paint. Both compositions differ in the degree of coverage, viscosity level and a number of other characteristics. You can also replace the AK-511 with:

  • enamel “Line” (used on roads with heavy traffic);
  • acrylic paint “Virage”;
  • acrylic enamel "Liniya-M";
  • "Liniya-Aero" (used at airfields);
  • fluorescent enamel AK-5173.

The above information shows that AK-511 paint is a versatile material used for various purposes. Analogs of this composition have a more limited scope of application.

Color palette

The intended purpose of AK-511 paint and the production technology described in GOST do not suggest colors other than matte white.

To apply special colored road lines, a related composition, AK-511 Sprinter, is used.

It is allowed to add red, orange, yellow and black pigments to this enamel.

Precautionary measures

AK-511 paint is a toxic material classified as hazard class three. This is explained by the fact that before use, the enamel is mixed with solvents, which quickly evaporate into the air.

Therefore, when working with this composition, it is necessary to wear a respirator, gloves and goggles.

It is prohibited to apply paint near open sources of fire. This is also due to the presence of flammable solvents in the enamel. If the material catches fire, the fire area should be extinguished with sand, water, foam or asbestos.

Application technique

Marking must be applied in dry weather with humidity not exceeding 85%.

The recommended air temperature is from 5 to 30 degrees Celsius. The base should be as clean as possible from dirt, debris and dust.

Dilute the paint with acetone, toluene, butyl acetate or other substances specified in the instructions. The share of solvent is up to 15%. The use of gasoline, kerosene and water is prohibited. It is necessary to stir the paint until complete homogeneity is achieved.

If it is necessary to pause work, the container with the dye is tightly closed, and then stirred again, achieving uniform distribution of the dry residue throughout the entire volume of the mixture.

For manual application, use a roller or brush. If painting is done using a sprayer, the latter is kept at a distance of 0.2-0.3 m from the road surface.

The choice of paint supply mode depends on the brand of equipment. The marking is applied in 1-2 layers.

The approximate material consumption is 0.4-0.6 kg/m2. If necessary, glass beads are added to the composition - 0.3 kg/1m2.

After applying the markings, the roadway can be used within 30 minutes. If the air temperature is high enough, the coating will dry even earlier.

Toluene is used to remove paint residues from equipment.

Recommendations for use

Before applying paint, you must ensure that the air temperature is in the range from +5°C to +35°C and the relative humidity is less than 85%. The road surface must be prepared - dried and cleaned of sand, debris, oil and grease stains. Immediately before use, the paint should be stirred; if excessive viscosity is detected, it can be diluted with a solvent of category “P-5A” to the required consistency. Also, to increase wear resistance, it is possible to add quartz sand to the paint (grain size - 0.3 mm), in a ratio of 5 to 10% by weight of the paint.

The paint is suitable for application by all available means: specialized equipment for applying road markings by airless spraying, hand sprayers, brushes and rollers. To improve the light reflection characteristics, immediately after applying the paint (5 to 10 seconds), reflective granules are added on top.

The manufacturer guarantees compliance with the declared performance characteristics only if the application instructions are followed. If paint is applied in high humidity or on a wet, unprepared surface, the service life may be significantly reduced.

Storage conditions and precautions

The paint retains its quality for 6 months in the temperature range from -30 to +40 degrees.

What you should pay special attention to:

  1. AK-511 belongs to substances with the third hazard class. This means that the material is toxic and unsafe. The maximum permissible concentration of the product in the air is 150/50 mg/m3
  2. While working, be sure to use personal protective equipment - a respirator or gas mask, gloves or special protective pastes
  3. Avoid contact with fire
  4. To extinguish a paint fire, use foam or sandblasting fire extinguishers or water and asbestos cloth.

Properties of enamel AK-511

AK-511 enamel is intended for marking roadways with improved surfaces (asphalt, asphalt concrete, cement concrete). The characteristics of the enamel allow it to be used on roads with medium and high traffic intensity in the widest range of climatic zones at temperatures from minus 40°C to plus 60°C.

Enamel of different colors has identical properties; black enamel is intended for demarcating temporary road markings.

The drying time of the enamel ranges from 15 to 30 minutes and depends on the ambient temperature and the temperature of the road surface. The fast drying time allows the enamel to be used even on heavily loaded roads without a significant and long-term loss of throughput.

Features and Specifications

Road enamel AK-511 is an acrylic copolymer, which contains modifying additives, pigments and fillers. Organic solvents are also added here.

It is specially designed to be used for applying road markings on public roads; it is also used on concrete airfield pavements, warehouses, and parking lots. The main purpose is to inform road users. Its peculiarity is that it is highly resistant to weathering and abrasion. And to this will be added a relatively low price, low consumption per 1 m2, this makes it a leader when choosing material for applying road markings.

Due to its chemical composition, it is a suspension of pigments with fillers in an acrylic polymer.
