Properties, description and instructions for use of glue grade 88

General information

Chloroprene adhesive (nairit) 88 is produced on the basis of nairit (chloroprene rubber) and a number of other components - nefras, ethyl acetate, phenol-formaldehyde resin. The mixture contains adhesive enhancers and a number of other synthetic resins.

The product is manufactured in accordance with GOST 12172-74. In appearance, the mass has a beige, brownish, greenish color. Precipitation is allowed, which does not reduce the basic properties.

Manufacturing plants produce glue in different packages - in small containers, in cans and sprays, in drums and barrels of 25 - 50 liters. Shelf life - 1 year, storage is carried out at temperatures -40...+30 degrees.

Glue 88 and all its varieties are of consistently high quality. Easy to apply to surfaces, easy to use.
The complex composition provides excellent adhesive properties, makes the glue waterproof, elastic, and some compositions are considered a particularly strong material. Each variety has its own characteristics and common features. For example, 88-NP glue can withstand low and high temperatures, while 88-M glue is very tear-resistant.

Types and their characteristics

Each type of glue 88 will have different technical characteristics. It is worth considering all brands that are in demand.

88-SA

Glue 88-CA is characterized by parameters of average tensile strength, the value is equal to 11 kgf/cm². Suitable for bonding rubber elements, metal bases, foam rubber, rubber with glass, wood, concrete and other bases. Actively used in shoe repair. The product is highly moisture resistant and retains surface adhesion during prolonged exposure to any liquid – fresh or salty. Able to retain its properties in cold and heat from -40 to +50°C.

The glue is distinguished by belonging to the explosion and fire category of substances, but is not toxic. It is forbidden to work with glue near sources of open flame, sparks and excessive heat.

Has the following advantages:

  • Flexibility and mobility of polymerized joints.

  • Long lasting residual stickiness.
  • The glue contains no solvents.
  • There is no need for special preparation for work; the substance is immediately ready for use.

Basic technical viscosity indicators from 10 to 40 s. and dry residue 26-29%. The applied adhesive does not cause rust on metal alloys; it can be found in containers from 1 to 200 liters.

88-NP

Rubber adhesive 88-NP is more durable than 88-SA. The tensile strength is 13 kgf/cm². Glue 88-NP is not afraid of changes during operation from -50 to +70 °C, as well as exposure to water and moisture.

The substance does not cause corrosion of metal surfaces and is actively used in the following areas:

  • Automotive industry.
  • Furniture production and assembly.
  • Aviation industry.
  • Construction.
  • Light industry.
  • Manufacturing of household appliances.

The finished adhesive joint made from 88-NP has the following features:

  • Good elasticity.
  • Excellent degree of adhesion.
  • Frost resistance.

The 88-NP variety appears to be a good alternative to screws, threads, nails and other connecting parts. Suitable for both industrial and household use. Most often it is sold in convenient and compact bottles of 50 and 100 ml.

88 Lux

This brand of glue is created on the basis of organic solvents, this is its characteristic feature. The adhesive is intended for gluing any soft materials such as foam rubber and hard cold or warm bases.

Important! 88 Lux is a universal type of glue that is used in the radio engineering industry and can be used to fasten parts of furniture, appliances, and other equipment.

Standard characteristics of this composition:

  • Viscosity degree – 90-180 s.
  • The share of non-volatile components is 33-43%.
  • External qualities – viscous viscous liquid of gray or yellow hue.

88-N

Glue 88-N is used for connecting vulcanizing rubber to various plastic, glass, wood, leather and metal substrates; it has a uniform light yellow consistency without additives, impurities or lumps. During long-term storage, sediment may accumulate, which will not affect the quality of the composition.

Waterproof adhesive 88-N has the following parameters:

  • Viscosity 30-40 s.
  • The percentage composition of the dry residue is 23-25%.
  • Long open time.
  • Lack of provocative activity to rust formation.

88-NT

Special-purpose Moment 88 NT glue glues surfaces made of absolutely any materials in structure and composition. You can use glue to hold fabrics and polymers together. It is capable of operating at various temperature conditions from -40 to +50°C. The adhesive base will remain sticky for a long period. However, after connecting the parts, adhesive characteristics will appear, and 6 hours after application, the base can already be used. This is considered one of the best indicators. The glue can be applied to the surface using any convenient of two existing methods.

88-M

88-M brand adhesive stands out noticeably on the market with its strength indicator of 15 kgf/cm², so you can safely choose it for various purposes. It was created on the basis of varieties 88-SA and 88-NP, which is superior in its characteristics. Surfaces glued with this substance can be used at air temperatures of -40...+70 degrees. The areas of application of this glue are quite extensive; it can be used in all of the above.

88-Metal

Universal adhesive 88 Metal is a high-quality, water-resistant product that has great adhesive strength. Any non-metallic parts can be attached to the metal base, including rubber, leather, fabric, wood, foam rubber and many others. The product is produced and is capable of providing ultra-strong connections between materials. The glue does not need to be diluted, especially with toxic drugs or toluene, since they are not contained in the composition. It is only permissible to dilute it with gasoline. 88 Metal is a type of adhesive based on polychloroprene rubber, and therefore is highly elastic.

Main product parameters:

  • Viscosity 50 s.
  • Fast hardening.
  • Economical consumption.
  • Significant strength of the adhesive seam.
  • Consumption 0.1-0.2 kg/m², depending on the chosen application method.
  • Curing time is 3 hours for hot application and up to 24 hours for cold application.

The composition is resistant to fresh and salt water and needs to be stored under conditions of 10 degrees Celsius or more. Before use, you need to keep it in a warm room for two days.

88-KR

This type of glue is the newest and most relevant among ordinary brands. The glue has improved strength, resistance to moisture and air, and has a reduced setting time. The finished adhesive joint will differ in its service life.

Important! The main component of the 88-K composition is chloroprene rubber. The glue can be diluted with gasoline, but other popular substances are not suitable for this. Glued surfaces can comfortably exist under environmental conditions of -50... +90 °C, which is much higher than other types of glue. The maximum possible strength value is 25-26 kgf/cm².

This type of adhesive is suitable for use in the automotive industry for the following purposes:

  • Minor repair work in equipment cabins.
  • Connection by gluing seals with various elements.
  • Providing high-quality sound insulation, gaskets for a gasoline tank.
  • Installation of interior cables.

This professional adhesive is also used in the civil aviation industry.

Scope of application

The description of the areas of application of the product is very diverse. They can be used to glue vulcanized rubber, glass and plastic, ceramics and earthenware. In construction, glue is used for interior decoration - attaching floors, carpet, moldings, ceiling tiles.

Instructions for use

Before use, any brand of product must be thoroughly mixed to ensure uniformity. How to use the glue and what to dissolve if it has thickened is always indicated in the specific instructions for use. Most types of glue can be dissolved with ethyl acetate up to 1:1. How to dilute glue in the presence of organic solvents? This is xylene or toluene, in some cases gasoline is suitable. You can use a 1:1 mixture of Galosh brand solvent and gasoline.

Before gluing, surfaces should be cleaned of dirt, dust, degreased and sanded. There are two ways to use:

  1. Hot. Apply the product in a thin layer, dry for half an hour. Then fold the surfaces and heat at +90 degrees for 10 minutes. Then wait at least 3 – 5 hours before using the product.
  2. Cold. Apply a thin layer of glue, dry for 15 minutes, then apply another layer. Press the parts down and dry for 24 hours at room temperature.

Please note that on porous materials it is necessary to apply a primer before gluing. What it is and which brand to choose is indicated in the instructions. Priming will help reduce the absorption of the adhesive.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

6.1. The fire, explosive and toxic properties of rubber glue are determined by the properties of the nefras solvent:

flash point - minus 17 °C;

lower explosive limit - 1.1% (by volume);

upper explosive limit - 5.4% (by volume).

The maximum permissible concentration of nefras vapors in the room should not exceed 100 mg/m. Nefras hazard class according to GOST 12.1.007-76-IV.

Nefras is a mixture of paraffin and naphthenic hydrocarbons, it is toxic, has a narcotic effect on the body, causes dry skin and can lead to dermatitis and eczema. Has an unfavorable effect on the nervous system, causes anemia, and is not capable of accumulation.

6.2. In the room for storing and using glue, handling open fire and other ignition sources is prohibited.

Artificial lighting must be explosion-proof. When opening the container, it is not allowed to use tools that produce a spark when struck.

6.3. When the glue catches fire, the following fire extinguishing agents are applicable: asbestos blankets, sand, fire extinguishers (thick foam), high-expansion foam. The use of water is prohibited.

6.4. The room in which work with glue is carried out must be equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation and meet the requirements of GOST 12.1.004-91 and GOST 12.1.005-88. Supply and exhaust ventilation should be turned on 30 minutes before starting work and turned off 15 minutes after finishing work.

6.5. When working with glue, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment in accordance with standard industry standards approved by the USSR State Committee for Labor and Social Issues and the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions.

6.6. If glue spills, you must carefully collect the product in a separate container. Cover the spill site with sand or chalk and then remove it. In an emergency, you should use a brand A gas mask with a brown box.

6.7. To eliminate electrification during the production and use of rubber glue, the antistatic additive ASP-1 (30% by weight solution of chromic salt of synthetic fatty acid of the C-C fraction in nefras) is introduced in an amount of 0.02% of dry matter per weight of the polymer.
