Composition and purpose
EP-057 contains:
- zinc powder;
- epoxy resin;
- polyamide hardener.
The primer is a suspension of powder, resin and polyamide, modified with polyurethane resins. Primer color is grey.
The purpose of the paint and varnish protector material is to protect metal structures from corrosion, which:
- operated in atmospheric conditions;
- exposed to aggressive effects of sea or fresh water;
- are in conditions of high humidity.
Use EP-057 primer to protect:
- containers in which petroleum products are stored and transported;
- pipelines.
The zinc composition is used to prime transport bodies (cars, ships, trains), and equipment that is exposed to aggressive environments. In everyday life, the composition is used for protection:
- gates, fences and wickets;
- pillars;
- water and sewer pipes;
- drainage gutters;
- roofs
The primer can be used in kitchens and bathrooms, on balconies, and in swimming pools. Structures primed with EP-057 and coated with special enamels will last a long time even in conditions of high humidity.
Features and Benefits
The primer composition has powerful anti-corrosion properties. EP-057 is completely waterproof and prevents the influence of electrolyte on the surface of the metal structure. The soil not only reliably protects the metal from the aggressive effects of moisture, but also slows down the corrosion processes that have already begun.
Zinc protector:
- durable if the coating is applied according to the instructions and does not have mechanical damage that impairs its integrity;
- waterproof and water-resistant;
- resistant to stress, electrostatic, electrical and vibration;
- chemically resistant to aggressive environments;
- heat-resistant and fire-resistant, extinguishes on its own;
- insensitive to sudden temperature changes;
- Resistant to fungi, insects and ultraviolet radiation.
The primer applied to a vertical surface lies in an even layer and does not drip.
Technical characteristics of the primer EP-057
The proportion of non-volatile substances in the primer coating ranges from 87 to 89%. To prepare the mixture, the following solvents are used: RP, R-4 and R-5.
After drying, the primer applied to the metal surface forms a waterproof, matte, uniform gray film. The layer thickness varies from 65 to 70 microns, and the mixture consumption does not exceed 330 g/m. The finished composition remains suitable for application for 12 hours at an air temperature of 20 - 22 degrees.
Other primer parameters
The primer consists of 87-89% non-volatile components.
To prepare the mass, you will need solvent “PP”, “P-4”, “P-5”.
At the end of drying, there will be a gray matte film on the base, protecting it from moisture and water.
As a rule, a ball with a thickness of 65-70 microns is applied, and 330 grams are used per square meter. After preparing the primer mass, it will remain effective for 12 hours at room temperature.
Surface preparation
Before applying the composition, metal structures need to be prepared in a certain way:
- Remove from the surface everything that interferes with painting or accelerates corrosion: metal shavings, foreign inclusions, a layer of mineral oils, dust.
- Clean the surface to be prepared in three ways: mechanical, chemical, thermal. For chemical cleaning of surfaces, drinking water, solvents, and other compounds are used.
- After the structure is thoroughly cleaned, it is chrome-plated or phosphated. The procedure increases the properties of the paint coating - adhesion, service life.
- After the surface of the metal structure has been thoroughly cleaned, degreased and prepared, proceed to applying the primer.
Important! The mixture is used as an independent coating or as a preparation for further painting of the structure.
Surface application
The EP-057 primer is applied in several ways:
- spraying - using special equipment;
- brush;
- roller
The latter application option is advisable if the surface area to be painted is small. If the metal structure is large and the working conditions are cramped, the mixture is sprayed using pneumatic equipment. Large-sized products are coated using airless spraying, provided that high quality of the finished layer is required.
The viscosity of the working composition differs according to the chosen method of applying the primer to the metal surface. If zinc protective primer is applied to the structure:
- with a brush or roller, the composition is diluted to a viscosity of 60 - 80 s;
- pneumatic spray, the viscosity of the primer solution is 16 - 20 s;
- using the airless method, the protector is diluted to 20 - 40 s.
The temperature when applying the primer should not exceed 30 degrees. It is recommended to apply the composition in at least two layers. The drying time between painting metal surfaces is a maximum of 2 hours.
The zinc powder in the primer settles, so the finished primer is stirred periodically (every 10 - 15 minutes).

Safety precautions
Epoxy primer is flammable and toxic. Manipulations near open flames are strictly prohibited. All work, from preparing the mixture to its application, is carried out only in well-ventilated places. During the process, personal protective equipment is used, from masks and goggles to rubber gloves.
The dry component of the mixture is volatile, so workers mixing or spraying the mixture must use a respirator to prevent the primer from getting into the respiratory and digestive systems.
If the primer gets on the skin, wash it off. Use warm running water and soap.
Precautionary measures
Please note that due to the presence of epoxy resins in the composition, the primer is toxic and can ignite at lightning speed, therefore working near fire is strictly prohibited!
Also, EP-057 should be primed only in a well-ventilated area, and work only with protection (gloves, goggles and a mask/respirator).
Since dry components quickly evaporate, when preparing and applying the composition you need to wear a respirator or mask to prevent particles from entering the respiratory and digestive systems.
If drops of primer get on your skin, you should immediately wash it under running warm water and soap.
